OLD BUSINESS:

1. LANDSCAPE MAINTENANCE Ben Menard reported that the landscaping at the 123rd Street entrance and portions of the landscaping at the round-a-bout have been treated once with Round-Up during the month of August. He plans on additional spot treatments as necessary during September. The group again agreed that additional maintenance is needed in all the landscaping, but postponed any further action until additional volunteer help could be recruited.

2. MEMBERSHIP RECRUITMENT The Board confirmed plans to conduct “pit stop” recruitment efforts on the Saturdays of September 24th and October 1st. Scheduled times are from 9:00 AM to Noon both days, weather permitting. Gail Bradley distributed “Willow Wood” polo shirts to each of the Board members to wear during the recruiting efforts. A decision to fund the cost of the new shirts was delayed until after the recruiting efforts. Kathy Burns distributed a sample “Willow Wood Neighborhood” business card for comments. The Board made minor revisions to the card and authorized Kathy to have them printed. Ben Menard reported that his effort to purchase Willow Wood logo magnets on-line was not successful. He will contact Fast Signs for a price and send an email to all Board Members for approval.

3. COMMUNICATIONS The real estate statistics posted on the Willow Wood website during August courtesy of Kathy Burns were applauded by the Board. It was suggested that the Board should send an email to everyone on the mailing list whenever something new like this becomes available. Alan Blumer will meet with Kathy Burns and Gail Bradley to teach them how to use this feature of our web site

NEW BUSINESS:

1. CITY COUNCILMAN TOM MULLIGAN attended the meeting and asked for feedback from the Board regarding how the city was doing in servicing the Willow Wood neighborhood. The discussion is summarized below.

  • MOWING: The Board informed Tom that the contractor is using smaller mowers this year as requested. However, the turf is still cut too short, is not cut often enough and there is little if any trimming being done.

  • TREES: The Board informed Tom that no tree work has been done in our parks and common areas this year. There are numerous dead trees that need removal and numerous trees that need trimming,. “Volunteer” trees are also a serious problem that is not being addressed.

  • FREE MULCH: The Board informed Tom that after receiving two or three small loads of mulch, a city employee told Ben Menard that free mulch was no longer available due to an equipment malfunction.

  • STREET MAINTENANCE: The Board informed Tom that a few potholes have been patched this year, but no real street repairs have been performed.

2. CITY COUNCILMAN TOM MULLIGAN informed the Board that a Town Hall Meeting for City Council District 7 will be held on Wednesday, October 12th at the Swanson Library. Speakers from various city departments will make presentations and be available for questions.
